I’m waiting for an article of mine to be published on another web site. I’m quite excited about it, as I think it will stir up some debate, and it’s a well trafficked web site. The topic of the article is a black and white renaissance.
I’ve been thinking about this topic for some time, wrote about it last week, and it should be published any day now. And then this morning, I wake up to the news that Google is releasing their Nik Software bundle for free!
This is interesting for a variety of reasons, but I’m writing about it because it’s another easily accessible starting point for semi decent black and white photography.
I played around with the Nik Software bundle demo a few years ago, but haven’t used it since. I can’t recall if it could stand alone, but it plugged easily into Photoshop and Lightroom, and I believe other applications too.
I don’t think it’s as significant as the proliferation of decent in camera black and white film emulation is going to be, but hopefully it’s just one more way that people will come to create and understand black and white photography again, and this is a good thing!
